Ball Vape Microdose: One Hit at 554°F in the Universal Baller

Converting the Universal Baller out of its 1000 ruby performance mode into the full ruby insert, then adding the TMJ adapter for the thermal mass. 554°F (290°C) with a 60 second heat soak, a small puff to get in and then one hard pull. One hit, session over, which is the best microdose I have had out of any vape I own.

When I reviewed the Universal Baller I was running it in performance mode 1000 ruby balls. That review walks the whole kit. This one is the flavor upgrade: I convert it from performance mode into the full ruby insert, then put the TMJ on top of that.

554°F (290°C), a 60 second soak, one hard pull. It is the best microdose I have had out of any vape I own.

From 1000 rubies to the full ruby insert

Performance mode means big heat, big extraction, and the vapor meets metal on the way to you.

The ruby insert changes what the vapor touches. Seated in the chamber, the air path is ruby the whole way through. In the video I take it apart and put it back together step by step.

What the TMJ brings

The TMJ adapter is the other half of this. Titanium metal jacket, which tells you what it is doing: it adds thermal mass, and that mass is what makes one hard pull enough.

The ruby insert plus the TMJ for extra mass… that combination turned this into a different vape.

554°F and a 60 second soak

The settings, so you have them in text and do not have to scrub the video:

  • 554°F (290°C)
  • 60 second heat soak before the first hit
  • Insert in, TMJ adapter on

Small puff, then pull hard

Two moves. A small puff first to get into the bowl, then a really hard pull. That is the one hit extraction, and it is unreal.

The pull is doing as much work here as the temperature is. Heat decides what comes off the herb, airflow decides how it gets to you, which is why the hard pull is not optional on this one.

Why this is a microdose setup

0.1 grams… that’s it. One hit and done. The Titanium microdose bowl from Crossing Tech paired with the TMJ = one hit and lift off… it really is impressive.

What I am drawing through

The Cactus Cooling Whip, which is a dry pipe. No water in it, so you keep the flavor a bubbler would wash off and still get some cooling before it reaches your lips. The wooden handles on the vape are from Ed's TNT.

This is one way to run the thing, not the way. The hash session is the other end of it, same vape, completely different settings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you microdose in a ball vape?
Yes, and this is the setup that did it for me. The Universal Baller with the ruby insert seated and the TMJ adapter on, 554F (290C), a 60 second heat soak, then a small puff followed by one hard pull. One hit and the session is over.
What temperature do you run the ruby insert at?
554F (290C) in the Universal Baller with the TMJ adapter fitted. That is the setting that works for me on this combination, not a universal number for every ball vape or every insert.
How long should you heat soak before the first hit?
60 seconds on this setup. That is longer than the 15 to 45 seconds the kit asks for, and at this temperature the longer wait is what the hit needs.
What does the TMJ adapter do?
TMJ stands for titanium metal jacket. It adds thermal mass, and paired with the full ruby air path that extra mass is what makes one hard pull enough.
What is the difference between performance mode and the ruby insert?
Performance mode is the insert out: a titanium path over the full chamber of ruby balls, so the vapor meets metal on the way to you. With the ruby insert seated, the air path through the chamber is ruby the whole way.
