About
Super Silver Haze is one of the most decorated competition strains in cannabis history. Bred by Green House Seed Company during the 1990s, with Scott Blakey (known in breeding circles as Shantibaba) doing the principal breeding work, the strain won first place at the High Times Cannabis Cup three years in a row, in 1997, 1998, and 1999. No other strain has matched that three-peat. The genetic makeup combines three major parents: Skunk, Northern Lights, and Haze. Northern Lights contributes structure and flower density, Skunk adds the fuel-earthy aromatic base, and Haze provides the terpinolene-forward sativa character that dominates the end product. Shantibaba's breeding approach emphasized stabilization and multi-generation consistency rather than rapid commercialization, which is part of why Super Silver Haze remained a reliable performer across decades of seed releases. The terpene profile is distinctive. Terpinolene leads at 0.49%, with pinene in a close second at 0.47%. That is an unusual pairing for commercial hybrids, and it is part of what gives Super Silver Haze its sharp, almost resinous-citrus aroma rather than the fruit-candy character common in modern Cookies-era strains. Caryophyllene at 0.20% and myrcene at 0.17% round out the top four. Our database chemotype classification is "Orange (Terpinolene-dominant)", placing Super Silver Haze in the classical-sativa category where the terpinolene signature leads. THC ranges between 18.0 and 24.4% across the lab samples in our database, moderate-to-high by modern standards and unusual for a sativa-dominant strain of its vintage. Reviewers describe the effects as euphoric leading, then creative and happy, with energetic and focused following. That six-effect spread matches what daytime-functional sativas are typically selected for, which is part of why Super Silver Haze kept winning competitions against lineages with more exotic parent pedigrees.
Why does Super Silver Haze feel uplifting?
Super Silver Haze's effects are driven by its dominant terpinolene (0.49%), associated with a mildly sedative yet uplifting experience, combined with pinene (0.47%), associated with alertness and mental clarity.
