Super Lemon Haze
by Green House Seed Company
About
Super Lemon Haze was bred by Green House Seed Company in the mid-2000s, specifically by Franco Loja working alongside Green House founder Arjan Roskam. The cross is Lemon Skunk, a female cut Arjan sourced from Las Vegas, and Super Silver Haze, Green House's own three-peat Cannabis Cup winner from the late 1990s. The result is about 80 percent sativa, 20 percent indica, with the Lemon Skunk contributing the sharp citrus aromatic character that gives the strain its name. Super Lemon Haze won first place at the High Times Cannabis Cup in both 2008 and 2009, and has accumulated eight total Cannabis Cup victories across various categories since its release. That competitive record ranks it among the most successful commercial sativas of the 21st century, even though the strain has since been overtaken in consumer popularity by more recent Cookies-era hybrids. The terpene data confirms the strain's potency and distinctive character. Terpinolene leads at a very high 1.52%, with caryophyllene close behind at 1.20%. Those two terpenes combined account for over 2.7% of the flower's weight, which is exceptional by database standards. That concentration is part of why Super Lemon Haze consistently presents with such a pronounced, sharp aroma even in less-than-premium grow cycles. Beta-pinene at 0.28% and myrcene at 0.25% round out the top four. Our database chemotype classification is "Orange (Terpinolene-dominant)", the classical sativa category. THC ranges between 16.2 and 21.9% across the lab samples, moderate-to-high by modern standards. Reviewers describe the effects as creative and focused as the tied top pair, with hungry and relaxed following. That effect arc is consistent with Super Lemon Haze's reputation as a functional daytime strain with a coming-down secondary phase, rather than a pure one-note sativa.
Why does Super Lemon Haze feel uplifting?
Super Lemon Haze's effects are driven by its dominant terpinolene (1.52%), associated with a mildly sedative yet uplifting experience, combined with caryophyllene (1.20%), one of the few terpenes that binds directly to CB2 cannabinoid receptors.
