About

Master Kush was bred in Amsterdam in the 1990s by White Label Seed Company, a sister operation of Sensi Seeds. The strain was originally released under the name "High Rise," reportedly because it was developed in a tall building in Amsterdam, and later rebranded as Master Kush once the line had stabilized. The genetic makeup is a cross of Hindu Kush and Skunk #1, with the Hindu Kush parent providing the Afghan landrace foundation that gives every Kush-family strain its characteristic earthy-spicy base. Master Kush won the High Times Cannabis Cup two years in a row, in 1992 and 1993. That early competition record is what established the strain's reference status for Kush-style indicas, and it remained a common dispensary offering through the 1990s and 2000s before eventually being overtaken by later OG-family hybrids. The terpene profile is modest by modern standards but well-shaped for its indica classification. Caryophyllene leads at 0.30%, with limonene at 0.20% and humulene at 0.14%. Linalool at 0.07% adds a floral note. That combination produces the classic Kush-family aromatic character: spicy-earthy base with a citrus brightness and subtle floral undertone. Our database chemotype classification is "Purple (Caryophyllene-dominant)", consistent with the indica profile. THC ranges between 9.4 and 12.8% in our lab samples, which is notably low for a modern commercial strain and may reflect older genetics or a less-expressive phenotype. CBD sits in the 0.21 to 0.29% range, which is higher than most modern THC-dominant strains and may account for the strain's reputation as a calming indica rather than a pure couch-lock. Reviewers describe the effects as relaxed and happy tied at the top, with sleepy and uplifted following, a textbook classical indica effect arc.

Why does Master Kush feel pain-relieving?

Master Kush's pain-relieving effects are linked to its dominant caryophyllene (0.30%), one of the few terpenes that binds directly to CB2 cannabinoid receptors. Complemented by limonene (0.20%), known for mood elevation and stress relief.
