About
Kosher Kush was released by Reserva Privada, a Los Angeles-focused California breeder collective that operates under the DNA Genetics umbrella. The strain's origin story is unusual: it emerged from the LA cannabis scene in the late 2000s under the nickname "Jew Gold," a local label that Reserva Privada formalized into "Kosher Kush" when they stabilized the line for seed release. The original lineage was essentially unknown when it reached Reserva Privada, which is why our database lists the parent lineage ambiguously as Kosher Kush crossed with OG Kush rather than naming specific upstream parents. Kosher Kush then went on a competition streak that is still cited in cannabis culture: first place in the Indica category at the High Times Cannabis Cup three years in a row, in 2010, 2011, and 2012. According to some accounts, Kosher Kush was also the first commercial cannabis strain to be formally blessed by a rabbi, a detail that shows up in Reserva Privada's original promotional material. The terpene profile is citrus-forward despite the indica classification. Limonene leads at 0.54%, with caryophyllene at 0.37% and humulene at 0.17%. That high limonene content is unusual for an indica-leaning strain, and it explains why Kosher Kush has a brighter, more citrus-pungent aroma than the earthy-fuel profile most OG-descended indicas carry. Linalool at 0.15% adds a floral note that rounds out the spread. Our database chemotype classification is "Yellow (Limonene-dominant)", a somewhat unusual tag for an indica-classified strain. THC ranges between 21.2 and 28.6% across the lab samples, which is on the high end of commercial potency and consistent with Kosher Kush's reputation. Reviewers describe the effects as focused first, then relaxed and sleepy, with uplifted as a secondary characteristic. That arc is the classic competition-indica profile: functional on the front end, sedative on the back.
Why does Kosher Kush have these effects?
Kosher Kush's effects are driven by its dominant limonene (0.54%), known for mood elevation and stress relief, combined with caryophyllene (0.37%), one of the few terpenes that binds directly to CB2 cannabinoid receptors.
