GSC
by Cookie Fam Genetics (Berner, Jigga) · OG Kush × Girl Scout Cookies
About
GSC, originally released as Girl Scout Cookies, was bred by the Cookie Fam collective in the San Francisco Bay Area in the 2011 to 2012 window. The core Cookie Fam lineup included Berner, a rapper and entrepreneur who later built the strain into the Cookies commercial brand, and Jai "Jigga" Chang, the cultivator whose F1 Durban Poison parent plant became the genetic backbone of the whole family. The original cross is F1 Durban Poison with OG Kush. The name was inspired by the Thin Mint Cookies flavor association that one of the breeders landed on during early phenotype selection. That name did not hold up legally. The Girl Scouts of the USA issued a cease-and-desist a few years later, which is part of why the strain is now more commonly referred to as GSC in commercial contexts, both on dispensary shelves and in our database. The terpene data in our database for this sample is unusual and worth flagging honestly. Myrcene is recorded at 4.4%, with pinene at 1.1% and caryophyllene at 1%. Total terpene content in the sample comes out above 8%, which is well outside the biologically plausible range for cannabis flower. Commercial testing typically puts total terpene content between 1 and 3 percent of dry weight. The numbers here are almost certainly a data quality issue, likely a decimal-placement or unit-conversion error at the lab source. The relative ratios (myrcene-dominant with pinene and caryophyllene as secondaries) are consistent with what GSC typically shows, even if the absolute values are off. Our database chemotype classification is "Blue (Myrcene-dominant)", which matches the profile shape even if the numbers need a skeptical eye. THC ranges between 15.7 and 21.3% across the lab samples, moderate by 2026 hybrid standards. GSC is the genetic ancestor of a massive proportion of the modern cannabis market, including Wedding Cake, Gelato, Do-Si-Dos, and dozens of other commercial hybrids that dominate current dispensary menus.
Why does GSC have these effects?
GSC's effects are driven by its dominant myrcene (4.40%), which has sedative and muscle-relaxant properties, combined with pinene (1.10%), associated with alertness and mental clarity.
