About

Blueberry is one of the foundational California-Dutch hybrid lineages, developed in 1981 by DJ Short, a breeder so influential in modern cannabis genetics that he is sometimes called the Willy Wonka of Pot. Short spent the 1970s traveling and collecting landrace sativa seeds from Colombia, Mexico, Thailand, and Panama, then began systematic crossbreeding once he had a library of distinctive parent lines. Two specific plants drove the Blueberry project: a Highland Thai cut nicknamed "Juicy Fruit" for its sweet tropical flavor, and a Purple Thai that was itself a hybrid of Oaxaca Gold and Chocolate Thai. Those two crossed with a California Afghani male eventually stabilized into Blueberry. The commercial breakthrough came decades later. Blueberry won the High Times Cannabis Cup in 2000, which is what introduced the strain to the broader commercial market. It has since become one of the most-used parents in modern breeding, showing up in the lineage of Blue Dream, Blueberry Muffin, and dozens of other fruit-forward hybrids. The terpene data in our database is appropriate for a classic indica-leaning hybrid. Myrcene leads at 0.83%, with limonene at 0.20% and caryophyllene at 0.15%. That myrcene dominance is responsible for the sweet, ripe-berry character that gives the strain its name, while the supporting limonene adds a citrus brightness. The flavor tags in our records are berry, earthy, and sweet, which capture the dominant impression cleanly. Our database chemotype classification is "Blue (Myrcene-dominant)", the classic indica-leaning hybrid category. THC ranges between 16 and 24% across the samples in our records, which is consistent with commercial Blueberry reports and above-average for hybrid potency. Reviewers describe the effects as hungry leading, with creative, relaxed, and sleepy following, an evening-indica arc consistent with the strain's reputation.

Why does Blueberry feel relaxing?

Blueberry's relaxing yet uplifting effects are associated with its high myrcene content (0.83%), which has sedative properties, balanced by limonene (0.20%), known for mood elevation.
