Moon rocks are a powerhouse cannabis preparation made by taking a high-quality cannabis bud, coating it in a layer of cannabis oil or concentrate, and then rolling or dusting it in kief. The result is a dense, heavily coated nugget that combines flower, concentrate, and trichomes into one extremely potent product.
Moon rocks typically test between 50% and 90% THC depending on the quality of each component. The three-layer construction (flower core, oil coating, kief exterior) means that every hit delivers cannabinoids from multiple sources simultaneously. The original moon rocks were popularized by rapper Kurupt and dispensary owner Dr. Zodiak, using Girl Scout Cookies flower, CO2 oil, and premium kief. Today, many brands produce their own versions using various strain combinations.
Moon rocks should not be put through a grinder, as the sticky oil coating will gum up the mechanism. Instead, use scissors or break them apart by hand into small pieces. They burn best in a glass pipe or bong, as rolling them in a joint results in uneven burning. Pack a bowl with a small bed of regular ground flower, place moon rock pieces on top, and apply flame gently. Start with a very small amount, as the extreme potency can overwhelm even experienced consumers. These are not for beginners.
