A solventless cannabis concentrate made using ice water and micron filter bags to separate trichomes from plant material.
Bubble hash is a solventless cannabis concentrate made using ice water and mesh filter bags (known as bubble bags) to separate trichomes from plant material. The name comes from the way high-quality bubble hash bubbles and melts when heated. It is one of the purest and most traditional forms of cannabis concentrate.
Cannabis flower or trim is mixed with ice and cold water in a bucket or washing machine, then agitated to break trichomes free from the plant material. The mixture is strained through a series of mesh bags with progressively smaller micron sizes (typically ranging from 220 to 25 microns). Each bag collects trichomes of a different size, with the middle bags (73 to 120 microns) generally producing the highest quality product. The collected material is dried carefully, often through freeze drying, to prevent mold and preserve terpenes.
Bubble hash is graded on a star system from 1 to 6 based on how cleanly it melts. Full melt (5 to 6 star) hash leaves no residue when dabbed and represents the purest trichome-only product. Half melt (3 to 4 star) is suitable for smoking or pressing into rosin. Cooking grade (1 to 2 star) contains more plant material and is best used in edibles. Because bubble hash uses only water, ice, and mechanical agitation, it is prized by consumers who prefer solventless products and want to avoid any potential chemical residues.
