A translucent cannabis concentrate with a glass-like consistency that breaks apart easily, known for high THC content.
Shatter is a cannabis concentrate named for its glass-like transparency and brittle texture that snaps or shatters when broken. It is one of the purest forms of cannabis extract, often appearing as a translucent amber sheet. Shatter typically tests between 70% and 90% THC.
Shatter is produced through butane or CO2 extraction, similar to other concentrates. What makes shatter unique is the purging process: the extract is spread thin and heated under vacuum without agitation. This undisturbed process allows the molecules to align in a uniform structure, creating the clear, glass-like appearance. Any disruption during purging, such as stirring or temperature fluctuation, causes the extract to become opaque (turning into wax or budder instead of shatter).
Shatter is consumed primarily through dabbing. To use it, break off a small piece and apply it to a heated nail or banger. Shatter can also be placed inside a joint or on top of a bowl for added potency. Store shatter on parchment paper in a cool, dark location. Over time, shatter can undergo a process called nucleation, where it gradually becomes cloudier and develops a sugary texture. This does not indicate degradation but rather a natural molecular rearrangement that changes the consistency without significantly affecting potency or safety.
