What Is a Hash Snake?
A hash snake is simply hash that has been warmed and rolled into a rope or snake shape. It is used as a hash snake for a joint — specifically for making a donut hole joint or hash hole joint, where the hash melts down through the center of the joint as it burns, leaving a hole and delivering a significantly stronger hit than a regular flower joint.
You can use full melt or partial melt hash. Full melt is easier to work with since it is more pliable, but partial melt can work just fine with a bit more patience and heat. Avoid completely dried-out or very compressed brick hash as it is harder to form.
How to Make a Hash Snake: 4 Easy Steps
This parchment paper hash technique is the easiest and most reliable method for forming a hash snake at home. You only need three things: hash, parchment paper, and a lighter.
- Weigh out your hash. For a standard joint, aim for around 0.3 to 0.4 grams of hash. This gives you enough to form a workable snake that will sit nicely in the center of your rolling paper.
- Wrap in parchment paper. Place the hash on parchment paper and fold the paper over it. The parchment paper protects your fingers from the heat and gives you a smooth surface to roll against. If your paper keeps rolling up, fold the edges to keep it flat.
- Apply gentle heat with a lighter. Run a lighter under the parchment paper (not directly on the hash) for a few seconds at a time. This is how to roll hash into a snake — by warming it until it becomes malleable. Do not overheat; if you hold the flame too long the hash will ignite. Short bursts of heat, then work the hash with your fingers through the paper, then heat again.
