How to Decarb Hash and Kief — 3 Simple Steps

Step 2: Cover and Bake at the Correct Hash Decarb Temperature and Time

The correct hash decarb temperature and time is 115°C (240°F) for 40 minutes. Preheat your oven to this temperature first. Cover the baking dish tightly with a double layer of aluminium foil — folding it over the edges seals in the aroma and keeps the volatile terpenes inside the dish during decarb. Place in the centre rack and bake for exactly 40 minutes.

Do not increase the temperature to speed it up. Above 150°C (300°F), THC begins to degrade and convert to CBN, reducing potency. The same hash decarb temperature and time applies when you decarb kief in oven — kief is simply looser resin and decarbs at the same rate.

Step 3: Cool and Store

Remove the dish from the oven using oven mitts. Do not open the foil immediately — let it sit covered for 15–20 minutes. This allows the released vapour to re-absorb back into the decarboxylated hash for edibles use. The hash will smell strongly of cannabis when you open it — that is normal and a good sign.

Once fully cooled to room temperature, transfer to a clean glass jar lined with parchment paper. Seal and store in the freezer. Freezing prevents the decarb sticky hash from clumping together and keeps it potent for months. Label the jar with the date and estimated potency.

Dosage Notes

Fordee decarbed 10 grams of Afghani hash in this video. Afghan hash typically contains 30–50% THC, so 10 grams = approximately 3,000–5,000 mg THC total. He portions it in 1-gram increments for individual recipes — each gram contains roughly 300–500 mg THC. When you know how to decarb hash and kief accurately, you can dose your edibles with much more confidence than using flower alone.
