Pine-scented sesquiterpenoid found in guaiac wood and cypress pine.
Piney, woody, rose-like — with a subtle freshness
Guaiol is a sesquiterpenoid alcohol (C₁₅H₂₆O) found primarily in the oil of guaiac wood and cypress pine. Unlike most terpenes which are liquid at room temperature, guaiol is a crystalline solid. It was one of the first terpenoids identified from guaiac wood, a tree historically valued for its aromatic and medicinal properties.
Research has associated guaiol with anti-inflammatory and anxiolytic (anxiety-reducing) activity. In cannabis, it is a relatively rare terpene that contributes subtle piney, woody, and slightly floral notes. When heated with sulfur, guaiol transforms into guaiazulene, a compound with additional anti-inflammatory properties.
