How to Clean and Maintain Your Dab Rig

• Empty and rinse the rig with warm water to remove loose debris.
• Remove the banger and any accessories. Clean these separately.
• Pour isopropyl alcohol into the rig through the mouthpiece. Add a tablespoon of coarse salt. The salt acts as an abrasive.
• Cover the openings with your hands, plastic wrap, or silicone caps. Shake vigorously for 1 to 2 minutes.
• Let it soak for 15 to 30 minutes if there is stubborn buildup.
• Rinse thoroughly with warm water. Repeat if needed.
• Dry completely before your next session.

Cleaning the Banger

For routine maintenance, the after-dab swab method is usually enough. For deeper cleaning:

• Soak the banger in isopropyl alcohol for 30 minutes to an hour.
• Use a cotton swab to scrub any remaining residue.
• For stubborn spots, heat the banger gently with a torch to loosen deposits, then swab while warm.
• Never torch a banger to red-hot to "burn off" residue. This degrades the quartz and causes permanent clouding (devitrification).

Water: Change It Every Session

Fresh water every session is a simple habit that makes a noticeable difference. Old water absorbs terpenes and develops an off taste. It also becomes a breeding ground for bacteria. If you can see particles floating or the water has any colour, it is overdue.

Some people add ice or use chilled water for cooler hits. This is personal preference and does not affect cleaning frequency.

Common Mistakes

• Torching the banger clean. Heating to red-hot destroys the quartz surface over time. Iso and swabs are always better.
• Using harsh chemicals. Avoid acetone, bleach, or commercial glass cleaners. Isopropyl is all you need.
• Ignoring the downstem. The joint where the banger meets the rig collects reclaim. A pipe cleaner with iso handles this quickly.
• Cleaning when hot. Let glass cool before applying cold alcohol. Thermal shock can crack thinner glass.
