How to Clean and Maintain Your Dab Rig
A clean rig means better flavour, smoother hits, and a longer lifespan for your glass. Here is a practical guide to cleaning your dab rig and banger.

A clean dab rig is not just about aesthetics. Residue buildup affects flavour, airflow, and even the safety of your session. The good news: keeping your rig clean is simple if you build the right habits. Here is everything you need to know.
Why Cleaning Matters
- Flavour. Residue from previous dabs creates a stale taste that muddles the terpene profile of fresh concentrate. Clean glass lets you taste what you are actually dabbing.
- Airflow. Buildup in the rig's percolator or downstem restricts draw, making hits harder to pull and less smooth.
- Hygiene. Standing water in a dirty rig breeds bacteria and mould. If the water smells off, it is overdue for a change.
- Longevity. Regular cleaning prevents hard-to-remove buildup that can permanently stain glass or chaz quartz.
After Every Dab: The Swab Habit
This is the single most impactful cleaning habit. After each dab, while the banger is still warm (not hot):
- Use a dry cotton swab to mop up any remaining oil from the banger floor and walls.
- Follow with a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol to remove any residue the dry swab missed.
- If you use a carb cap, wipe the contact surface as well.
This takes about 10 seconds and prevents the carbon buildup that causes chazzing. Bangers maintained this way can stay crystal clear for months.
