Learning how to roll a joint for beginners is much easier with a rolling machine. Forget struggling to hand-roll — a joint rolling machine technique produces a perfectly packed, store-quality joint every single time. In this guide we walk through exactly how it works in 5 simple steps.
What You Need Before Learning How to Roll a Joint for Beginners
Before you start, gather these 4 things:
- Grinder — Breaks down your flower into an even consistency that rolls cleanly
- Rolling machine — The RAW 79mm 1¼ size roller is a popular and affordable choice
- RAW rolling papers and tips — Classic unbleached papers and pre-rolled filter tips make the process simple and clean
- Ground flower — Dry enough to roll without sticking, but not so dry it crumbles to dust
5 Simple Steps: How to Roll a Joint for Beginners
- Grind your flower — Use a grinder to break down your cannabis until it has an even, slightly fluffy consistency. Flower that is too coarse will not pack well; flower that is too sticky may clog the rolling machine. Aim for a medium-fine grind that holds its shape when pressed.
- Place the filter tip at one end — Roll a filter tip into a small cylinder and tuck it into one end of the rolling machine. This becomes the mouthpiece of your joint. You can use store-bought RAW rolling papers and tips or cut a small piece of thin cardboard as a DIY alternative.
- Pack flower in rolling machine — Load your ground flower into the rolling machine alongside the filter. Pack flower in rolling machine evenly from the filter end to the other end. Aim for a firm but not overpacked fill — too little and the joint will be loose and run unevenly; too much and it will be difficult to draw through.
