ScrOG

Screen of Green, a growing technique using a horizontal net to train cannabis plants into an even, productive canopy.

Screen of Green, known as ScrOG, is a cannabis training technique that uses a horizontal mesh screen or net placed above the plant canopy to create an even, productive growing surface. As branches grow through the screen, the grower tucks them back under, spreading the plant horizontally to maximize light exposure and create uniform bud development.

Setting Up a ScrOG

The screen is typically placed 8 to 12 inches above the pot, with mesh openings of 2 to 4 inches. During vegetative growth, the grower allows branches to grow through the screen and then tucks them back under, guiding them to fill every square of the mesh. Once 60% to 70% of the screen is filled, the grower switches to the flowering light cycle. During early flowering, continued tucking ensures an even canopy. Any growth below the screen that does not reach through is removed (lollipopped) to focus energy on the top canopy.

Advantages

ScrOG is one of the most efficient methods for maximizing yield in a limited grow space. By spreading the plant horizontally, every bud site receives direct light rather than being shaded by taller branches above. The technique works especially well with a small number of plants in larger pots, as each plant fills a significant portion of the screen. ScrOG is often combined with topping to create multiple branches that can fill the screen more quickly and evenly.
